Bike Ride 6
11/8/20
David: Bike Ride 6 aka Saab Ride 1 is where I found easily the most Saabs in one ride. This is because I stuck to primarily the Warwick area, and was able to stop by Conntech Saab, a Saab specialist shop. I also found plenty of other goodies during this ride too. Warwick seems to be a home to a lot of classic cars.
Porsche 914 Cruising Through Cranston
I did my best to capture this car, as it was moving, but it is in fact the Porsche 914, the mid engine car Porsche made in the 1970s. I have seen this car recently around my neighborhood, but I haven't been able to get better shots of it. Porsche 914s are an uncommon and unique sight, so it's always a pleasant surprise to see one out and about like this one.
1984 Oldsmobile Cutlass Revisited
If you recall from Bike Ride 3 in the Summer 2020 collection, this car made its debut appearance. And now its back, and you get a better view of it. The other shot was a bit far away. You can also read more about it in that page, but I will add here that the car is still being daily driven (as of Summer 2022), and I still see it on the streets of Cranston
Datsun 240Z in the Fall
Here we have the same Datsun 240Z that made its debut also in Bike Ride 3. I decided to keep start trend of photographing this car throughout the seasons. Honestly this fall photo of the car is the best view of it, and honestly, it looks pretty solid, so it looks like it would be a great project car. It does not deserve to sit in that lot. Classic Datsuns like this one are becoming rarer and are increasing in value, so someone should definitely rescue this.
1983 Chevy El Camino
I believe its a 1983 model going by the grille, but I could be wrong. This truck has moved from this location and can be seen with a better view in a future collection. Sam also documents this again in 2022, and it still is in the same spot, so its still sitting. Although, its in great shape for an 80s El Camino
This El Camino can be seen in better detail in the Summer 2021 Bike Ride 10 entry.
Volkswagen T2 Kombi Bus
It's about time one of these showed up on here, right? This is of course the iconic VW T2 Bus. I was honestly really surprised to see this, I never see these around, and its such an iconic vehicle that just makes you happy when you see one. Classic VWs are such happy little cars, so its always great to see one.
This bus is at a shop waiting for maintenance, but is honestly in amazing shape, and you can tell its been used if you look closely at it. This shop attracts many interesting vehicles, and this won't be the last time you see something from them here.
Rotting 1980 Oldsmobile Toronado
This a wonderful example of malaise era GM cars. This a 1980 Oldsmobile Toronado, complete with the rotting body panels and aftermarket rims. It was also found parked at bowling alley which is a place I wouldn't be shocked to find an 80s GM car.
Above and Left: 1993 Saab 900 Turbo Combi Coupe Revisited
Remember that pristine white Saab also from Bike Ride 3? Well its back. This 900 kicks off the Saab spotting adventure for this Bike Ride, and it was great to revisit this car. I especially love how this car looks from the back, with its louvers and rear hatch. The Combi Coupe hatchback is easily my favorite body style of the 900.
The '86 900 had sold by this point, and to my knowledge, the owner still has this one today.
Above: MG Midget Mk. III
Right behind the Saab was this MG Midget Mk. III. You can tell its the Mk. III essentially by the grille design, and the Mk. III was also the generation before the infamous rubber bumpers, due to safety regulations.
Double Trouble - British Edition! Austin Healey Mk. I and MGB Roadster
Also at the same house the MG was parked at were these two. The iconic Austin Healey Sprite "Bugeye" and an MGB. Obviously, the owner is a British sportscar enthusiast, but its a coincidence he lives next to a Swedish car enthusiast.
Volkswagen Type 14 Karmann Ghia Survivor
Another classic Volkswagen! This is a gorgeous VW Karmann Ghia. The blue paint is so striking, and that's immediately what caught my eye. Clearly, its a driver, but what a beautiful car. It appears to be pretty stock and original as well.
1967 Chevy Chevelle Sedan
This is a poor shot of a 1967 Chevy Chevelle. I spotted this out of the corner of my eye. Its boxy styling gave it away. You can't tell from the picture, but this is indeed a 4-door car. It also says "Chevelle" on the hood, so it is a Chevelle, and not a Malibu rebadge. This car also appears to be original.
1988 Chevy Corvette Anniversary Edition
Out in the sunset was this pearl white C4 'Vette. Upon closer inspection, I realized it was an Anniversary edition. These were made for the 35th anniversary of the Corvette, since its debut in 1953. You can identify a 35th anniversary 'Vette by its all white body and matching rims.
In case anyone was also wondering, this car has sold.
1966 Ford Mustang Coupe
We definitely met by accident! This is a beautiful Mustang, I love how that blue looks in the sunset. I think that all speaks for itself. You might be wondering why the photo looks grainy, and that's because it was behind a fence, so I had to do the old "stick your phone camera through the fence" trick to take the picture. I think it came out good enough to do the car justice.
Above: Saab 900 Combi Coupes
This begins the "Saab Section" of this ride. I stopped off at Conntech Saab, a Saab repair shop in Warwick, RI.
In the left picture, we have an early '80s Saab 900. If you look closely, a silver Saab 9000 can be seen behind it. In the right most picture is a late 80s Saab 900 Combi Coupe. The first year of the "Facelift" 900 was 1987, so it could be anywhere between this year 1987-1993.
Conntech's Back Lot
Left to Right: 1970s Opel 1900, Saab 900 Combi Coupe, and a 1950s Studebaker Coupe
Some cars (besides the 900) you wouldn't expect to find at a Saab repair shop. I wonder why they had these here.
Above: 1956 Dodge Coronet Wagon and a Classic Saab 95 Wagon
Another strange car to have at a Saab shop. I was definitely surprised to see the Dodge here. Again, I wonder how it got there.
Although, besides the Dodge, this is the first "vintage" Saab I had ever seen. This 95 looks pretty solid, although it does need some work. I hope it gets restored one day, as these classic Saabs are becoming a rarity.

Pic 2: This picture captures the front ends of the cars mentioned in pic 1

Pic 1: Front: 1967 Sunbeam Alpine, Saab 900. Back: Saab 900 Turbo, 9-3 Convertible, and a Chrysler Cordoba.
Pic 2: Front: 1967 Sunbeam Alpine and another Opel 1900 Wagon. Back: A 900 Turbo convertible and a 9-5 Sportcombi
Above: Double Trouble - Swedish Edition! 1978 Saab 99 Combi Coupe and a Saab Sonnet III
I believe this is a 99. I'm going by the taillights, but this could also be a very early model 900 as well. Either way, its a very cool Saab, and one that has definitely seen better days.
In front of it, you'll see a yellow Saab Sonnet. The Sonnet is one of the most interesting Saabs ever made, despite it being a failure at first. They're one of the forgotten Saabs, but a true joy to see one, as you don't really see them anymore sadly. This also happens to be the only Sonnet I've seen.
Classic GM C-Series Trucks
I think the picture speaks for itself here, and I wouldn't say there's much going on. The black shell in the foreground is a 1967 to '72 Chevy or GMC truck. The green looks to be 1970 to '72 Chevy. We will document another GMC Pickup at this exact location in the Spring '21 collection, and you will see that same green truck in that exact location. The black shell up front moved some place else.
