Rockland, Maine Trip 2021

Sam: My family owns a small cabin up near Rockland, Maine, and at least once every Summer, we take a short vacation out there for a week.  There's usually some good finds, as the Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Owl's Head, ME has a bunch of cars on display and several events for exhibitors to come show off their cars.  This was the first of two trips up to Maine we took in 2021.  Not too much in the way of cars, but there's plenty more to come from the next trip, when I visit the Transportation Museum's "Wheels and Wings" show.

Eighth Gen Ford F-Series Pickup

Up first we have an eighth-generation Ford F-series pickup.  The eighth-gen ran from '87-'92, and there's a few of these old rigs still hard at work in Rockland and the surrounding areas.  There also seems to be a fair amount of squarebodies, so many so that I decided to stop photographing them.

Porsche 356 Cabriolet

This was a rare find: a Porsche 356 Cabriolet convertible.  I'm not sure on the year, but judging by the front bumper, it's pre-1960.  The car was in exceptionally nice condition, and the owner was even out driving it in a light rain when I took the photo (hence the top being up).  I can't remember if he actually got gas or just hid out under the station canopy to escape the rain.  This car reappeared at the Wheels & Wings show in 2022, so I think it has a local (to Maine) owner.

1978 Chevy Corvette Indy 500 Edition

Up next we have a 1978 C3 Corvette  Indy 500 Edition.  In 1978, as part of the 'Vette's 25th anniversary, Chevy decided to commission two special-edition cars: a "Silver Anniversary" two-tone pinstriped car, and the Indy 500 Pace Car replica.  This C3 is the latter of the two, and a fairly sought-after car these days.  This business usually has a few classic cars for sale sitting outside of it, and when I returned to Maine a month later, it had disappeared.  I hope the new owner enjoys it!

1936 Ford Deluxe Coupe

Last but not least is this 1936 Ford Deluxe (as best as I can tell).  This was an unexpected sighting, hence the poor photograph from the back of my dad's '02 CR-V (Man, I miss that car).  All of the sudden, it was there, and I managed to whip my phone out fast enough to photograph it.  It appears to be restored and in nice shape, but I haven't seen it since this photo was taken.
