The Cars of New Jersey
8/24/21 to 9/19/21
Sam: Some of the cars from the streets of the Garden State. These are all cars I saw when I was off-campus for orientation or leaving for Fall Break.
8/24/21 - 1980 Pontiac Bonneville
This car was spotted at a gas station during orientation week at school. I miss the days of $3.05 gas.
8/25/21 - Ford Econoline Van in Trenton, NJ
Another quickie shot from the orientation bus ride. I wasn't able to get a good look at the headlights so I can't pinpoint the exact year of the van. It could be a 1979 to 1991.
9/6/21 - MGB Roadster
This cool '70s MGB showed up one day on Nassau Street. It stopped at the light for a bit, then took off. I haven't seen it since.
9/18/21 - 1963 Studebaker Avanti
This car was parked at a garage on Nassau Street. The place usually has a supply of classics, either for sale or in for repair. This particular car is a cool find since not many Avanti's were made by Studebaker before they folded. I think this is an actual Studebaker Avanti and not a later one from when production changed to other manufacturers.
9/18/21 - 1965 Chevy Corvair and Jeep Wagoneer
There's a couple classics nestled into this shot. The red '65 Corvair on the left appears to have a vinyl top, while the Wagoneer sports a shiny paint job.
9/18/21 - 1974 Ford Thunderbird
This T-Bird was looking a little forlorn on the side of the lot. The paint was a bit faded and I think there was some rust coming through. I think the car was still mechanically functional because it was parked in a different spot when I visited the garage again later.

From left to right, 1983-90 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce, 1960s Mercedes, anther 80s Alfa Romeo
These cars all looked to be in good condition, and I believe they were all still on the road. I can't say for certain, but I think at least one of the Alfa's had moved or left when I last visited the garage.
9/18/21 - 1970 Chevy C-10 on Nassau Street
This car belongs to one of the business owners on Nassau street as it lives behind one of the storefronts. It appeared while I was getting a hoagie and then quickly snuck away into the parking lot behind the building.
Above: 9/18/21 - 1966 Plymouth Barracuda
This car resides at a garage just past the Flemington Circle in NJ. It hasn't moved in all the months that I've seen it, but it looks to be in solid shape. It's sometimes wearing a car cover when I see it, so it's still getting cared for by someone.
9/18/21 - Lincoln Continental Mk. VII
This car was up for sale for a time, and eventually sold. This generation of Continental uses the fox platform, shared by the popular foxbody Mustang. This particular example was in very nice shape. I hope it found a good home.

Pic 2: 1970s Ford L8000 with a '50s pickup next to it
These vehicles were on our friends' farm. The GMC is really interesting because it has a V12 in it. The yellow grain truck is still in service, but the blue one in the left photo was bought for the engine in order to fix another L8000. There were a couple other L8000s not pictured in use on the farm, as well as a Mack R-series. The reddish-pink truck next to the yellow L8000 is a 50s International awaiting restoration.

9/19/21 - 1979 Mercury Bobcat (Sam)
This must have been a new purchase as it was still on the trailer. I initially thought it was a Pinto, but the grille reveals it to be the Bobcat, the Pinto's Mercury cousin. It's in good shape, especially for being 42 years old. I saw this car a few more times over the following year, and not much changed about it (other than being unloaded from the trailer).
2022 Update: This Bobcat can be seen again in Mid Spring Spotting '22.
