Late Summer Cars Part 1

8/9/20 to 8/30/20

This is broken up into two sections because Sam went on vacation and found some cool cars that will have their own page on here. For this half, we have a lot of submissions by Sam as well as a friend of ours.

8/9/20 -  1989 Dodge Ram D-150 w/ Snowplow (David)

This truck has been parked in this spot for a while, but appears to be in use occasionally. I really like this era of Dodge trucks, and this was the last generation of the boxey style, before the second gen Dodge Ram took over in 1994.

Above: (8/9/20) - 1974 Chevy Monte Carlo (David)

This is the second appearance of this car on this blog, as mentioned in Bike Ride 2 (Spring 2020 collection). I was heavily interested in purchasing this car for some reason, but looking back on it, this wasn't my brightest idea. Closer up, you can see this looks to need a lot of work. I think it's complete, but the Bondo by the front fender doesn't look too promising. I'm also not sure why the body is two different colors either.

8/20/20 - 1972 Plymouth Sport Fury Suburban (David)

Sam and I found this car while on a bike ride near his house in North Providence. Upon research, the story of this car (to our knowledge) originates in New York, where the owner purchased it. This car is a survivor. It looks to have everything original to it, except we think the fake wood trim was redone recently, as looked like a vinyl print.

Behind it is possibly a Dodge Dart, we weren't able to tell because of the tarp, but the shape of the body and the wheels gave us a good idea of what it could be.

This car can be seen again closer up in the Early Spring Spotting '21 collection.

8/24/20 - Double Trouble! 1957 Dodge Coronet and a 1963 Ford Galaxie (Sam)

During the start of the pandemic, I found myself spending some of my free time staring out at the once-bustling state highway in front of my house.  We have a sunroom on the side of our house that provides a nice view of Smith Street, Route 44.  Occasionally, I'd see some classics pass by and attempt to photograph them through screened-in windows with my crappy LG K-20V phone camera (my later upgrade to a Pixel fixed the potato quality photos).  This shot was entirely coincidental.  I was originally trying to photograph the '57 Coronet when the '63 Galaxie decided to photobomb.  I'd seen the Galaxie pass by several times before, but I never got a shot of it until this point.

8/24/20 - 1978 Ford F-100 Custom (Sam)

Another true classic still hard at work.  I'd seen this truck on Smith Street from my sunroom a couple of times before I photographed it, and I think it was loaded up with a ladders one of those times.  It's got a couple sheetmetal patches over the wheel wells on the bed, but all in all it's in great shape for a New England work truck.  Judging by the lack of trim or emblems, I think it's a Custom model.  I wasn't able to get a closer look because after I took the shot, the owner and his daughter left the optometrist's office where the truck was parked, and with a few solid cranks of the starter, it was off.  I didn't see this truck for awhile after that, so I began to fear it was gone for good.  However, it reappeared just as quickly as it had vanished in May of 2022 as David and I were heading to the third A&W Cruise-in that we've documented.  Aside from a bit more light surface rust in the rear, the truck appeared the same as I'd left it.  As long as the owner takes care of the rust, I'm sure the truck will keep on going for a long time.

8/24/20 - 1967 Pontiac Firebird Rat Rod (Sam)

I don't know too much about this car.  It was discovered when I was practicing my driving skills in one of the residential developments off Angel Road in Lincoln, RI.  The car looked pretty amusing sitting up on those huge drag slicks, so I had my dad take a picture of it.  I don't know what happened to this thing because when I drove through the area a few months later, it was gone.  Maybe the owner stuck it in a garage to work on it, or maybe it got sold to someone more interested in the project.

This beauty was submitted by our friend Jess. She spotted this while on vacation. Thank you Jess for submitting this car!
