The Cars of Boston

David: My family and I took a three day vacation up to Boston. Since it was early post-pandemic times, we really weren't looking to go far to avoid getting sick, so we stayed local and went to Boston. We did a lot of walking, and here you'll find all the cool cars I saw during my time up in Boston.

1969 Chevy Camaro SS in Copley Square

Our hotel for the night was located right at the corner of Copley Square, an open area with a park located in Central Boston. As we were walking back to head to dinner, I spotted this '69 Camaro stopped at a light. It looks great, I think the rims are aftermarket, but look great on the car.

1990 Chevy G-10 Beauville on Beacon Hill

After dinner, we were walking around in the Beacon Hill area. It's a residential area with nice apartments, but its located on a hill with narrow roads, similar to the East Side of Providence. This is an '80s GMC van I spotted on the hill on our way up it. Not much to say here, but these old GM vans have been becoming less common. I remember they were always rusty, when I would see one as a kid, but this one is good shape for its age.

1994 BMW 525i Touring Wagon (E34) on Beacon Hill

This is a cool BMW! At the time, I didn't know much about BMW trim levels and models, so I thought it was a classic E30 wagon at the time. However, upon  a closer look at the photo, I realized I was wrong. It's a 1990s BMW E34 5 Series wagon, a rare trim level that was produced from 1990 to '95, before the E39 5 series came into production. Even to this day, this is a rare sight. I haven't seen many of these around.

My dad and I had gone to a music store on the second day there. On our way back, we passed this classic Mercedes Benz convertible. It looks to be a daily driver, or at least a summer driver. That Lexus behind it happened to photo bomb, but its a welcomed surprise.

This was spotted in the Fenway Park area of the city. My dad and I were heading to the Guitar Center close by, and this classic BMW E30 was street parked close to the store. Looking at the front end, you might see how I could mistake the 5 series front end mentioned earlier for one of these, since it was dark out. Now, after I look at both of these side by side, they do have their similarities, but both look pretty different from the front end. Either way, its great to see two classic BMWs on the road, as these were actually built to last and not to break on you like recent models have.

This is a near perfect Benz. I think the car speaks for itself.

1987 MBTA Type 7 Green Line Trolley Arriving at Park Street Station

The Type 7 Trolley is produced by Japanese manufacturer Kinki Sharyo, and were put into service by the MBTA in 1986. They were intended to succeed the older Boeing LRV models from the 1970s.

Between 1986 and 1988, the MBTA order 100 units for full service use. 79 of the original 100 are still in service. The MBTA ordered 20 additional units in 1997, and 15 of those are still in use. This trolley No. 3691 is of the original 100 Type 7 units ordered.
