Late Summer Cars Part 1
8/2/22 to 8/18/22
Part 1 of the late summer finds
8/2/22 - 1971 Chevy C-10 Shortbed Pickup (David)
I spotted this in Exeter on my way down to Connecticut. This is a extremely well kept C-10.
8/2/22 - 1957 Chevy Bel Air Displayed at Six Flags NE (David)
On the same day, I went to Six Flags New England. There was a '50s themed section in the park, which mostly had snack shops and concession stands done up to look like they were from that time period. In that section, rightfully so, was this '57 Chevy. While you can't see here, the car appeared to have gotten a repaint at some point in its life. The rims are also aftermarket, but everything else seemed to be stock.
Above: (8/3/22) - 1973 Chevy Corvette C3 w/ Body Kit (David)
This is an interesting C3. This was found on the side of Rt. 165 on my way back from Connecticut, as 165 is the most direct route connecting to RI. This was, and still is, listed for sale, but it was really hard to notice, since it was tucked away in this ditch. What's interesting, is the body kit on the front end of the car. I did some research on C3 body kits, but I could not figure out what type of kit this had. To my knowledge, this is not a factory option, as I've never seen a C3 like this. Despite its uniqueness, I think it looks good on the car. It looks correct. The matching rims and side pipes with the orange paint are only something reminiscent of the 1970s, which this car looks like it was ripped out of.
8/4/22 - 1969 Pontiac Firebird Convertible with 400 CI Engine (Sam)
Here we have a family car with a bit of history. This is my uncle's '69 Firebird convertible. It's got a 400 small block out of a '72 Grand Prix in place of the original 350. This was my uncle's second car that he bought around 1992 to replace a '67 Tempest that was starting to succumb to the dreaded NE rust. Since purchasing it, he's done the quarter panels, kick board, motor, top, and had the car repainted in its factory Carousel Red (I've honestly thought this car was orange all my life. It looks red in the photo, but it's always looked more orange than red whenever I've seen it.) He's installed three-point harness seatbelts and just last Summer, he went through the dash and re-did the wiring. He doesn't take it out too much and I haven't ridden in it in at least ten years, but I decided to take the opportunity to photograph it when I was returning some tools I'd borrowed from him. Maybe one day I'll convince him to let me drive it.
8/10/22 - Drive By Shot of Some Classics (Sam)
Left to Right: 1930s Auburn Hot rod, Slammed '60s Chevy C-10, and a White 66-67 Nova (not pictured)
This was a drive-by of a neat garage discovered on the return from my second Maine trip of the year.
8/10/22 - Custom International Harvester L-Series Pickup (Sam)
This picture was also taken on the way home, but towards the end of the drive. I'd see this old International every day this past Summer when I went to work. I saw it out driving one day, so it definitely gets around, too. Once again, I'm not a fan of the custom wheels, but it looks like the owner has the originals in the bed should the need arise to revert back to stock.
Above: (8/11/22) - Custom Grumman Panel Van and a 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 with Custom Gold Rims (Sam)
Here's a couple of finds I managed to shoot while I was at my job. The first find was an old van, complete with a flame paint job. I don't know what it was, it might have been a Divco for all I know. The second sighting was of a 1972 Hurst Olds 442 complete with aftermarket gold rims, which surprise, surprise, I actually liked. This car is currently up for sale on FB marketplace, where the seller says it's got a 455 big block, as well as "22 inch Forgiatos, staggered Hotchkiss sway bars, and Alden American coilovers." That should make for a sporty ride, and I bet it helps deliver the power from the 455 to the road better than the stock suspension could ever do. I actually saw another 72 Cutlass, a gold one, before I spotted this one, but I didn't get to take a photo of it. It's become a familiar face this Summer, as I've seen it multiple times while at work as well as another time on the highway.
8/12/22 - 1969 Chevy C-10 Shortbed in Edgewood (David)
I decided to do a quick bike ride one night to enjoy some the nice evening. Obviously, this was the only classic I found on the ride, so I'm not dedicating a bike ride entry for this truck. This is a nicely customized Chevy C-10. These old Chevy trucks can be hard to date, so the easiest way is to look at the front end fascia. Based on some small research and a careful examination of some pictures, I came to the conclusion that this is a 1969 C-10. The giveaway was the simplified backing grille, behind the bar that says "Chevrolet." In 1970, the grille became slightly more fancy looking with some added trim pieces.
8/13/22 - Volvo 240 in Weymouth, MA (David)
The wedding band's storage space is located in Weymouth, Massachusetts, so I'm constantly making the trip up to drop gear off. This specific day, two vastly different classics happened to drive by me, this Volvo and another car you'll see below. This 240 was clearly a daily driver, and a small project for its owner. I like the mismatched rims, but hopefully the owner gets a full set of the Volvo poverty caps. Those look best on a 240 in my opinion.
8/13/22 - 1965 Cadillac Eldorado Convertible (David)
This Eldorado, on the other hand, was a restored cruiser out enjoying the sunny day. The side shot gives you the impression of just how large these cars are. While horrible on fuel economy, the goal of this car was to get you to your destination in style and comfort. To this day, the Eldorado remains one of the most recognized cars in American luxury.
Above and Left: (8/13/22) - One Classic Meets Another (Sam)
Left to Right: Early '60s Chevy C-10 Pickup and a '70s Lincoln Continental Town Car
Once again, I have a few more goodies from work. This C-10 could be the nemesis of the Providence Painted Signs Ford that David photographed awhile back. It's a rival brand, as well as a rival painted signs company. I was fortunate enough that the truck parked down the street from my job so I could photograph it. Not long after, this clean Conti made a drive-by appearance. I initially thought that was it till I looked out the window and saw it parked in front of the C10. The owner must have been doing a parking spot recon and had passed by a second time before parking. Since it was during the slow hours of the day, I ran outside and up the street and snapped a pic of the two classics together.
8/14/22 - 1967 Chevy Camaro SS Convertible on I-95 (David)
Another find on my way back from the storage space in Weymouth, this '67 Camaro. It was a nice day, and the owner took full advantage of it. I believe he was also in a small convoy with a Plymouth Prowler, which sadly didn't get photographed. Come to think of it, we don't have a Prowler on here at all. Anyways, this is a sweet ride, and it's always great to see a classic out on the road being enjoyed.
