Third Rockland, Maine Trip 2023

Sam: With the Summer drawing to a close and the Fall semester looming ever so closer, my family and I headed up to Maine for our final trip of the Summer.

1984 Chrysler LeBaron Convertible "Shuckin"

The first find of the trip was this 1984 LeBaron, spotted in Damariscotta, ME.  I'm guessing it's someone's daily, potentially someone involved in the clam trade, judging by the license plate.  The owner was very trusting of potential passers by, as the keys were still in the ignition.  I contemplated taking a lap around the lot, but I decided to reconsider.

1975 Toyota Celica

On the way out of town, this '75 Celica rolled by.  My dad had a car like this, and it served him well for many years before he sold it to buy something a little newer and more reliable.

Above: 1967 Chevy Camaro 4MT Revisited

This car and its original owner have been vacationing up to Maine the past couple of years (and possibly even longer).  I first spotted this ride at the 2021 Wheels and Wings Show, held at the Owl's Head Transportation Museum.  Since then, not much has changed, and the owner definitely takes good care of this car.  I even saw her out driving it on the last day of the trip.

Saab 96 Coupe

This Saab has been located at a house near our cabin for the past few years, now.  According to David, it's a 1965 to 1968 model.  While the paint is a little faded, the car does still see use.  It's move locations since I last saw it last year.

Above: 1972 Chevy C-10 Cheyenne

These next few cars were spotted while walking around downtown Rockland.  As you can see, we got invaded by squarebodies at the end.  The first find of the walk was this sturdy C-10 Cheyenne.  In contrast to the one from the A&W cruise-in, this one is a bit rougher and still looks to be regularly used.

Willys Jeep Pickup Truck w/ 4 Wheel Drive

Further down the path was this old Willys pickup.  This one clearly hadn't moved in awhile, and the once-shiny paint was beginning to dull and lose its clear coat.  It was parked outside a house undergoing major renovations, so maybe it'll receive some attention once the house is finished.

1980s Cab-Forward Trucks

Here, we have a Volkswagen T3 Doka (green) and a Toyota HiAce H-90 (red).  I had to enlist David to ID the Toyota because these vehicles aren't my specialty.  These were definitely cool finds, and I can't say that I've ever seen any like them before.

BMW 2002

Here's another find for you, a 1971 to 1975 BMW 2002.  I wasn't able to get closer, unfortunately, as the car was parked far away from the path and had no easy means of access.

Ford Econoline Work Van

This old Econoline was out and about doing some hauling.  It's a 1983 to 1991 model.

Above: 1985 Chevy Suburban Diesel

And now the squarebodies have started to invade.  Parked in the same lot as the Econoline was this '85 Suburban of the diesel variety.  This one's got some surface rust, but no seroius structural damage as far as I could tell.  I wonder why the silver on the rear half faded, yet the front remains untouched.  Maybe it received a partial repaint at some point in its life.

GMC Sierra C-1500

Is someone following me?  A cousin of the Suburban decided to make an apperance as we returned from the walk.  This design was used on the 1973 to 1980 model years.

Multi-Colored Chevy C-10 Cheyenne

Double trouble!  Yet another C-10 makes an appearance and tries some cornering tactics in the hopes it'll scare me into not uploading pictures of it on the blog.  This one appears to be a 1977 to 1979 model.

Custom 1987 Chevy C-10

Are we in the clear?  Yes? Good, or so I thought.  This C-10 decided to follow us after we finished the hike and were driving away.  It pulled next to us once in town before silently stalking us from a church parking lot, angry that it had failed its mission.

GM Classics Revisited

Left to Right: 1981 Chevy C-10, Cadillac Fleetwood, 1956 Chevy Bel Air Sedan.  What could be better than an old family reunion?  I photographed these three vehicles (plus an Olds 88 that appears to have gone AWOL) back in 2021.  The Chevy looks to have a bit more surface rust, but is otherwise unchanged.  I hope the owner continued to take car of it because it really is a neat, original car.

1970 Chevy C-10 Flatbed

This old C-10 flatbed was spotted at a gas station in Camden.  I'm not sure what purpose it serves, but I'm glad to see another old truck dutifully doing its job 53 years after it was made.

1971 Chevy Camaro

This was spotted in Thomaston, ME, and is actually a local car.  For years, I've seen it parked in the driveway or out cruising the road, but it's always been just beyong the reach of my camera shutter... until this time.  As luck would have it, the owner came right up beside us one night, giving me the perfect opportunity to take a picture.  Cruise on, Camaro!
