The 240 Purchase of 2023

4/12/23

Yes, you read that right! I've purchased a Volvo 240. Before you continue with this Volvo Journal entry, I strongly recommend you read the previous entry The Volvo Crusades, where I talk about my experience looking to buy a Volvo 240 wagon.

Welcome home, Volvo

Let's hop right back into the story. We arrived back at Josh's house the next day around noon. There sat the silver Volvo wagon, just I had left it previously. We chatted about last minute things the car might need, and the exchange of cash and automobile was made. We chatted a bit longer, and I got the story of the maroon 244 Turbo, which you can read about in this article: 1985 Volvo 244 Turbo. Finally, we shook hands and said our farewells, and I set out on my maiden voyage with my newly acquired Volvo.

The 45 minute drive home from Connecticut wasn't that bad as I thought it would be. Once again, I underestimated the 240's performance on the highway. Certainly, the engine was screaming, but the car was able to reach 70 mph, it just took a bit of time. I noticed that the transmission would rev really high and shift at odd times. However, it was a four speed automatic transmission, something I wasn't used to, but will get used to as my ownership continues.

I made it home, safe and sound. I parked the car outside my house, just to take a picture for posterity and the memories, of course.

Although I had class in an hour or so, I couldn't drive the car to class yet, as I had to register the car first. An appointment was made for the next day around 9:45 a.m.

While I was at class, my father power-washed the car to bring some shine out.  I was pleasantly surprised to see this when I got home. The "Virgo" style Volvo rims really cleaned up nice, and some outside residue was washed off, shining up the car's patina.

However, some work was going to have to be done. The car would need some new license plate lights, as the current lights didn't work, due to the wires not being hooked up. This is a requirement for RI inspection. It would also need some more trim, but that will come in another entry.

Stay tuned for the next entry, where the Volvo gets registered, and I attempt to fix the lights.
