Smithsonian Trip
1/26/18
David: This was a school trip I went on for a student council retreat to Washington D.C. We explored a lot of the city on the first half, and we also went into a lot of the Museums. We visited the Smithsonian and the Museum of African American History and Culture. I photographed the exhibits that had cars, but it was nice to visit some of the best museums in the country.
1968 Pontiac Grand Prix Convertible
Here we have a 1968 Pontiac Grand Prix. There's also a 1980s Plymouth Voyager and a Peterbilt Semi-Cab in the background. This was part of an exhibit I believe to be about the American highway system. The '68 Grand Prix is sort of an odd looking car, as it was shorter than the previous Grand Prix's that came before it, but it also has a really cool front grille. This is also very reminiscent of the car used in Goodfellas, but I doubt that its the same car.
1939 Plymouth Deluxe
I really don't have much to say about this car due to the fact that I really don't remember much about the exhibit. I know it was about the late 1930s before the beginning of the war. I also remember the car was not the main attraction of the exhibit, but I still managed to take a picture of it.
Above: Boeing PT-17 Stearman
To the left and below is a Boeing PT-17 Stearman trainer aircraft. I believe I took this at the Museum of African American History and Culture. This aircraft was used to train members of the Tuskegee Airmen during the war.
After the war, these airplanes were sold to the civilian market, and most were used as crop dusters and for aerobatic stunts.
Above: Chuck Berry's 1973 Cadillac Eldorado
This is no regular 1973 Cadillac Eldorado. This happened to be owned by the one and only Chuck Berry. You know, the guy who pioneered rock n' roll? This was also on display at the National Museum of African American History and Culture. This is one rock star who knew how to ride in style.
