Newport Car Museum

4/17/2018

David: During Spring Break, my dad and I took a trip to the Newport Car Museum, as we both needed something to do for the day. This was a great trip, as they had a ton of great classics on display. The Museum was broken up into sections, sometimes by car model or by decade. They had lots of American muscle cars, as well as classic and modern European sports cars. Their special exhibit that day was a Mopar display. They did have a Plymouth Superbird, yes, a real one, which was the first one I had ever seen in person. As a kid, I loved these cars, and it was probably one of the best parts of the trip to finally see one. For this entry, I will not be leaving a description for most of the cars, as I think the best way to experience these is to look at them, as you would in a museum. However, I will be breaking this up into sections to create better flow for those reading this. Each section will broken up by exhibit.

Part I: The Shelby Exhibit. This exhibit was dedicated to the late Carroll Shelby, a legendary figure among car enthusiasts. He would modify and tune cars to make them high performance vehicles. He did this, most notably, with the Mustang and the AC Cobras. In the 80s, he worked with Mopar to make high performance versions of the Omni and Dakota Pickup. He passed away in 2012. His legacy lives on, and the movie, Ford Vs. Ferrari was made about him.

Part II: The Corvette Exhibit. This Exhibit was dedicated to the Chevy Corvette, to commemorate one of the most iconic American sports cars. They had almost every classic year of the Corvette, as well as some rare models and race cars.

Part III: The 1950s Fins Exhibit. This exhibit was dedicated to the beautiful cars of the 1950s. It was to also show off a lot of the cars with the fins, such as Cadillacs and Chevys.

Part IV: The Mopar Exhibit. The Special Exhibit, as mentioned, was the Mopar Exhibit, featuring all Mopars old and new. It wasn't the biggest exhibit at the Museum, but it had the Superbird, which was the main attraction.

Part V: The European Car Exhibit. This Exhibit was actually the first exhibit from the main entrance. It had various Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and other high end sports cars. It also had beautiful classic sports cars, like the ones you'll see, from the 1960s and 1970s.
