Second Rockland, ME Trip '21
8/7/21 to 8/13/21
Sam: Here we are with part II of my 2021 Maine trips! This one has more car sightings, as well as a whole separate section for the Wheels & Wings show. Enjoy!
8/7/21 - Fords of Yesteryear
From left to right: Ford Model A Coupe, Model A Pickup, and Model T Sedan
These cars were spotted at the WW&F Railway Museum in Alna, Maine. The museum was running all their locomotives this day and also had a few pre-war cars on display.
8/10/21 - 1975-78 Ford Econoline
This was spotted in Rockland. It pulled up and parked on the street while the owner went to one of the nearby stores. No, my camera isn't broken. Those horizontal lines are part of the defroster in the rear window of our '07 Pilot. I took this photo from inside the car.
8/12/21 - 1970s GMC Motorhome
This was spotted at Mount Batty State Park in Camden. The owner was driving off in it, so it's possible they could have spent the night camped out in it.
8/12/21 - 1979 Ford F-250 Ranger Lariat
This Ford, spotted on the move, is from the era when Ranger was a trim level and not its own model. This particular rig was still in nice shape 40+ years later.
8/12/21 - 1966 Ford Mustang
What's a Maine album without at least one Mustang? Here's a clean example of a first-gen 'Stang in the parking lot of a garage. There's also a Saab 9-3 in the background, which would make David appreciate this shot even more.
David: Yup, the '66 Mustang was already pretty cool, but seeing that early 2000s 9-3 photobombing the picture makes this even better.
8/12/21 - 1980 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and 1985 Oldsmobile Delta 88
And so we arrive at the personal junkyard of someone. I don't mean to be disrespectful, but the state of these cars and the landscaping around them make this scene akin to some of the yards I've visited. The only difference is these cars are all complete and not picked-over. The caddy and 90s Olds next to it hadn't moved in a long time, but the 88 was still plated and on the road. It looks a little tired, but it's still going strong after all these years. Hopefully, the bedliner on the rockers and quarters will do their best to protect the car from future rust.

Above: 1956 Chevy Bel Air
Travelling across the street from the 80s GM graveyard, we find this patina survivor '56 Bel Air. This car was definitely on the road, as it had current registration and inspection stickers. The interior was in nice, original condition as well. In the second photo, you can see a red squarebody in the background with presumably the owner of the '56 working on it. I believe all the cars pictured on this street belong to the same owner, as I saw the '56 Bel Air parked alongside the Delta 88 on the opposite side of the street when I returned to Maine in 2022.
8/12/21 - Seventh Generation Ford F-150 with Camouflage Paint Job
Unlike the 8th and 9th gens, these trucks are somewhat rarer up in Maine. The "Bullnose" Fords ran from 1980 to 1986 before they were replaced with the next generation, commonly referred to as OBS (old body style). This particular example was sporting a custom blue and black camo paintjob.
8/12/21 - Rolls Royce Phantom V on a Trailer
This car was spotted in Rockland at a tire/auto center. This place usually has a few classics at it getting work done, and the Rolls must have been getting something done on it. I'm not sure what, though, as it appears to be in nice shape. Maybe it's just getting tires, as the sign suggests.
Above: (8/12/21) - 1952 Mercedes 170S (W191)
This car was actually down the street from our cabin in St George. I hadn't seen the car before this year, although it was back in 2022 when we returned to Maine. As the sign suggests, don't even think about it, even though the keys are in the ignition. Either this guy has balls or there's a hidden camera somewhere nearby watching the car. That or he's hoping the potential thief doesn't know how to drive stick.
Above: (8/13/21) - Assortment of Ford and GM Trucks in Rockland
This lot had a variety of trucks, from bigger Ford and GM haulers to a few 60s C10s, to panel vans, to what appears to be a firetruck in the second photo. I don't know if any of them run or are on the road, although I think the selection has changed out some since I've been back up in 2022.
8/13/21 - 1958 Ford F-100
This truck appears to be getting a new rear end or brakes, since it's up on jack stands. At one point, it was on its own wheels behind the house, but as of 2022, it seems to have vanished. It could be parked behind the house or somewhere else. I don't know if this place is connected with yard full of assorted trucks, but the two locations aren't far apart.
