Bike Ride 7

3/22/21

David: After a long Winter, it was great to finally hop back on the bike and search for cars on the first day of Spring. However, it was still close to the winter time, and not many people had their classics out. I managed to find more older trucks in this ride than others before it, but there is plenty more to be seen for sure.

Above: 1977 Chevy Monte Carlo Revisited

I can now confirm this is a 1977 car. The '77 Montes had the hood ornament, and the '76 cars did not. This car is in the same condition as we last saw it, but a few cars had moved out of the way and I was able to get a closer look at it. The garage owner was smart and covered the Landau top to prevent water from getting under and rotting the roof out. That means this car is definitely savable.

2022 Update: Check out Bike Ride 19 for some more detailed photos of this Monte.

Chevy K-5 Blazer Revisited

Here we have a closer look at the K-5 Blazer. It looks to be a bit more worse off than the Monte, but overall still there. I'm a big fan of the bumper mounted fog lights, which I think look great, but I really think this Blazer would look even better restored.

2022: More detailed photos of this Blazer can also be seen in Bike Ride 19.

Above: A Shell of a Notchback Mustang

Out in the trees beside that garage, I found this Mustang shell and a Thunderbird shell, which you'll see below. I think this is either a '67 or '68 Mustang, going by the shape of the rear end. It's too bad this one bit the dust, but hopefully it lived a good life and donated parts to save another Mustang.

Also in its final resting place is this early '60s T-Bird. It looks to be more complete than the Mustang, but still far gone from roadworthy. I wonder if this one could be restored.

Above: Chevy Monte Carlo SS and a 1982 Pontiac Trans Am

These cars were parked in the actual lot of the garage. Two '80s GM icons: a Monte and a Trans Am. Although this Trans Am is not the KITT car. I know the Monte is a project car, but the Trans Am must've been there for maintenance, as it was gone the next few times I went by.

1977 Oldsmobile Cutlass Revisited

Since we checked back up on the '77 Monte and Blazer, it would only be fair to check up on the leaning '77 Cutlass. Like the Monte and Blazer, not much has changed with this one either. It still leans to right and hasn't moved from its spot. Upon closer examination, it is in decent shape, although the window appears to be down, so hopefully there's no water damage.

2022 Update: This car has since moved from its location, so hopefully its on its way to being restored!

Ford F-150 XL

At the same location of the Cutlass was this '90s eighth generation F-150. Not much else to say besides that honestly, but I felt it needed to be photographed because these are becoming less and less common. These are great workhorse trucks, and probably a lot of them are being run into the ground. I'm gonna sound like a boomer here, but this was when trucks weren't luxury vehicles, but more of a utility vehicle.

1975 Chrysler New Yorker: Pseudo-Bluesmobile

This might just be the greatest car I've ever found. It's a '75 Chrysler, but when you look closely it says "Bluesmobile," with various other slogans painted on it. If you don't know what the Bluesmobile is, It's from the 1980 film The Blues Brothers, please go watch it, you won't regret it. Anyways, I think this car is hilarious, but I'm not sure why they went with the Bluesmobile, as it has slogans like "Thank a veteran" and "Support our troops." These don't have much to do with the movie itself, and the army was actually trying to kill the main characters at one point, spoiler alert. Still, this car is hilarious and I love it.

1982 Dodge 400 Convertible

Probably the most forgotten K-Car of all K-Cars, the Dodge 400. This car is the equivalent of the sibling thats overshadowed by its overachieving older sibling, in this case, the Chrysler Lebaron Town and Country. I don't think the Dodge 400 was made with "fine Corinthian leather" and had an advertisement featuring Ricardo Montalban, a famous actor. Still, the Dodge 400 gets all the love it deserves on ONEC, as it is a K-Car, and any K-Car is iconic in our eyes.

Mazda FB RX-7

This poor RX-7 has been sitting in this spot for years, I really hope someone restores it. Despite the bad surface rust on top, it looks pretty solid. On a side note, SA or FB are the terms for the first generarion of RX-7s, until FD, when it was succeeded by the RX-8.

Ford LTL-9000 Dump Truck

This classic Ford L-series dump truck is in great condition.  These were produced from 1976 to 1991 and remained largely unchanged, so identifying the year on these can be difficult. I love the front grilles of these old Ford L series trucks, I can't really explain it, but I think they're great looking trucks.

1968 GMC C-Series Pickup

If you remember from Bike Ride 6, I mentioned that we would return to this spot to photograph another '60s GM truck. I kept my promise, and we've returned with a '68 GMC Pickup, but one of the original trucks from that entry still remains. Can you spot it?

Above: 1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442

This '80s Cutlass has seen some better days. That '90s generic rim on the rear end does not match the front one hidden by the trashcan, and the paint was in fair shape. This car had been in this spot for some time, prior to this entry, and had a tarp over the back end, but the owner took it off at some point. In a future entry, we will return to this location, with a different Cutlass... more on that later.

1978 Chevy Monte Carlo

The third generation of the Monte Carlo lasted shortly from 1978 until 1980. This Monte appears to be in great shape for its age, as it looked rust free and the Landau top was clean. For as unpopular as Malaise cars can be, I'm glad they're being saved. This was found at Leo's Tire Shop in Warwick, RI. We will also return to this garage in future entries.

An Abandoned Jeepster Wagon

The Willys Jeepster is another forgotten car of the 1960s. I think they're also some of the most interesting and unusual cars from that era. They're essentially a Jeep up front, with a normal car body in the rear. This was to appeal to the passenger automobile market as well as the utilitarian one. The first Jeepsters were produced from 1948 to 1950. This wagon version, however was kept in production until 1964. The regular Jeepster was revived as the Commando in 1966. That's some Jeep history for you.

This Jeepster Wagon was left to sit under this shack. The house was also abandoned and run down, so its one of those classic stories. Hopefully one day, this piece of automobile history will get a second life.

1980 Chevy C-10 "Warwick Hillbilly"

Someone's trying to play redneck in a pretty urbanized area. Other than that, this is a lifted Squarebody C-10 thats been lifted and given the nickname "Warwick Hillbilly" scratched in the front hood, complete with the American flag in the bed.

1977 Chevy C-10 w/ Bed Cover

Down the road from Warwick Hillbilly was this more stock C-10. Aside from a few pieces of trim missing and replacement fender, I believe this is still a driver. It also has a matching bedcover too for bonus cool factor pints.

1985 Dodge Ram 50

A Mitsubishi Triton Rebadge, this was a truck that I had no idea existed. I was making my way back to the main roads, and I saw this parked here. It looked like a Mazda or another early Japanese truck, but when I got closer to it, it said Dodge. This is just a rebadged Mitsubishi, similar to what Ford did with the Mazda B-series trucks.

1987 Oldsmobile Cutlass Lowrider

Although this is a Cutlass and not a Monte, this reminds me of Jesse Pinkman's lowrider in the first season of Breaking Bad. I thought this looked pretty cool, as typically these aren't really made into lowriders.

Ford F-250 Dump Truck

Here we have another eighth generation F-Series, this time a dump truck. I photographed it because I thought it was cool seeing an old truck like this still in use, although this one is up for sale. Hopefully who ever buys it gets many more years out of it.

Ford F-250 with Snow Plow

Continuing our trend with old '90s Ford work trucks, here we have another for you!

Chevy C-10 Squarebody Wrecker

This Squarebody appears to belong to a racing team, and it looks pretty cool with its heavy duty push bar. Otherwise, it seems to be a truck made between 1983 and 1985, based on the grille design.

1978 Ford F-Series Custom in a Sea of Lawnmowers

Now of all places to find a classic Ford truck, why in a sea of lawnmowers?

1968 Chevy Nova Revisited

It's inevitable to go on a bike ride and wind up at Andy's. If you remember from the previous Winter entries, this '68 Nova was covered in snow. That is this very car right here, although with much less snow on it. It appears to be in the middle of receiving front end maintenance. This Nova also had some drag slicks on it, so the owner must race it. They've chosen a great car to race in.

1979 Pontiac LeMans Coupe

Sam and I had trouble identifying what this was for the longest time. We knew it was a late '70s GM car, but we weren't sure what it was. Finally after many Google searches, we discovered that it was indeed a '79 Pontiac LeMans. This is another occasional classic I'll see around town, but not very often. I only saw it on the road once or twice after this shot.

1987 Ford LTD Crown Victoria

This is a fairly clean '87 Crown Vic. It's the regular civilian version, which is kind of more rare than the more popular P-71 police cars. I've always loved these old LTD Crown Vics. A P-71 is on my dream list for cars to have, and I've considered getting one on several occasions because they're incredibly durable and reliable, and not mention on the cheaper end.  These were also used in the Men in Black movie series, as the MIB cruiser.

2022 Update: This car has not moved from this spot, and to this day is still there

1984 Chevy C4 Corvette w/ Spoiler

This is another C4 Corvette in Cranston, living in its native land. This Corvette will also be seen again, in a different color! That's right, the owner repainted the car, but you'll have to stick around to find out what color! Two hints: think of the movie Motley Crue: The Dirt and Bike Ride 12...
