Bike Ride 9
4/30/21
David: This ride sticks primarily around my neighborhood in Cranston, although I stumbled across cars I had never seen around before, and there are some amazing finds here. This ride gives you a great assortment of classic 1960s American cars, mostly GM cars.
Chevy Corvette C4 w/ Targa Top
This the moment the C4 Corvette became the official car of Cranston. I see these EVERYWHERE around Cranston, so I historically designated the C4 Corvette the Official Car of Cranston. But I'd be lying if I said I never wanted to own one, so I guess it's just part of the Cranston experience.
Above: 1966 Oldsmobile Cutlass Sedan
This is a car I swear I'd never seen before in my neighborhood, and I was so surprised to see it. Here we have what appears to be an all original 1966 Olds Cutlass. Another survivor sedan, that we're glad isn't being turned into a 2-door. I have to say, there's quite something about classic 1960s sedans. The styling is timeless and unlike no other era of cars. I'm super glad this car is being kept alive.
1966 Lincoln Continental Project Car
Tucked away behind a bush was this 1966 or 1967 Lincoln Continental project car that I saw out of the corner of my eye. This appears to be a pretty solid car, aside from the missing bumpers. I hope who ever owns this brings it back to life, as these classic Lincolns are some of the best looking American cars.
Above: 1969 Chevy Impala Convertible
This is a beautiful example of a 1969 Impala. That blue with the white top is gorgeous. It was parked down at a garage, so I had to position my phone's camera through the chain link fence to get the shots of this car. That's also why the photos came out a bit blurry. The 1969 model year for the Impala also has some history in my family. My grandfather on my mom's side owned a gold sedan that was used for a while, up until the late '70s. The Impala survived the Blizzard of '78 and the family dog chewing the interior up. He liked the car a lot, as he would bring it up when we would talk about cars. He eventually sold it for a Nova with a hole in the floor. There is some ONEC history for you!
Left and Above: 1978 Pontiac Firebird Formula
What a beautiful example of a late '70s Firebird. This car is immaculate, like that '66 Mustang from the last bike ride. I especially like the matching rims to compliment the red paint.
Above: 1974 Chevy Malibu SS
The beginning of Malaise era GM, although this one looks good. Its also been for sale once or twice, but I'm not sure if its sold. I love how this car looks, despite this being a less desirable Chevy Chevelle. I think the classic GM Rallye rims look great on this car, especially the red paint.
You will also notice a red C4 Corvette in the background, further emphasizing the C4 'Vette as the official car of Cranston.
