Second Rockland, ME Trip 2022

Sam: Here is trip two of 2022 that my family and I took up to Maine.  We came up to check out the Wheels and Wings show at the museum, as well as a few other things nearby.  As we used to say back during my scouting days, "A fun time was had by all," and there were plenty of car spotted and a few Impala parts acquired.  Enjoy!

Korean War Era Jeep M-38 in Thomaston, Maine

This Jeep was on display when we went out to grab ice cream at our local spot.  The ice cream stand had recently been acquired by the dealership next door, which saved it from closing after the stand didn't turn the profit they needed to recover the expansion investments they'd made a few years prior.  I guess this is a huge plus now because not only do I get to continue enjoying great ice cream, but now I also get to see the occasional car put on display by the dealership.  This Jeep was one of said displays.  I guess they were relying on potential thieves not knowing how to drive stick, since there was a switch for the fuel pump and one for the starter in place of any keyed ignition switch.  I contemplated hopping in and going for a ride, but I don't think the owners would have approved.

A Real Delorean DMC-12 in Thomaston

Probably one of the rarest finds we've had is this pristine Delorean DMC-12.  You never see these cars anymore, and on the off-chance that you do, they've usually been turned into the Back to the Future time machine.  This one was still stock, and yes, it still needs roads wherever it's going.  This car is local to the area, in fact, I've seen it parked at a house nearby.  I'm definitely looking forward to seeing this car on my future trips to Maine!

VW T2 Kombi Bus in Chelsea, Maine

If this bus looks familiar, it's because it's nearly  identical to the one David spotted in Spring of 2022.  This is definitely a different bus because the trim on the roof is a bit different and the paint is in need of a good buff.  As you can tell from the b-pillar in the foreground, this was another drive-by shot.  I had just enough time to pull out my phone and snap a picture of this bus before it drove past, on to some new adventure.

1969 Pontiac GTO in Thomaston, Maine

This car is owned by a local artist and art dealer in Maine.  I'd occasionally see it out over the years in the lot outside his studio.  This particular trip, he had it out again, so I was able to snap a picture of it.  Yes, it's another drive-by photo, but it's the best I could do.  The owner keeps good care of this Goat, and it hasn't changed much from my earliest recollections of it some fifteen years ago or so.

1977 Chevy Camaro in Thomaston, Maine

Whoever lives here must be a GM fan, as there's three decades worth of GM classics parked outside.  First up is this gold Camaro.  It looks to be in great shape and ready to rumble at a moment's notice.  It's also got a T-top, something I didn't notice until later while looking at the photo.  This was one of my more successful drive-by shots, but the telephone pole still managed to photobomb.  Oh well, you can't win 'em all.

1967 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hardtop and a Hidden Chevy IROC Camaro

Down by the side of the house were some more classics.  My favorite has to be the '67 Cutlass, but the red IROC is cool, too.  Both car look to be in excellent shape, just like the Camaro.  I wonder who's responsible for those tire tracks on the driveway.  Could it be one of the three aforementioned cars, or is there another classic hiding in the garage under the house?  Of course, it could also be the 2000s Silverado in the background, but that's not as appealing.  And with that, we've come to the end of my second trip to Maine for 2022.  The Wheels and Wings show cars, as well as my junkyard trip, are documented on separate pages, but this is it for the "loose" classics.  Thanks for looking!
